Ahh the weekend. It goes so fast. After recovering from my post-vacation depression (it’s a real thing) the weekend finally came and I was able to pack it with activities so that I could forget that I wasn’t on the Golden Coast anymore.
On Friday, we went on a double date with my sister to the Melting Pot for some fun-due. I’ve been to a Melting Pot once before, and wasn’t impressed with the portion to price ratio, but Groupon convinced me this could be a fun night out at a discounted rate. And despite the torrential downpour outside that prevented the place from having running water, we had a pretty good time.
On Saturday, I was supposed to head to Fire Island with some friends, but we were rained out. (Oh how I miss you sunny California!) So, I ended up grabbing a drink at my favorite summer spot in Hoboken – Pier 13. This pier-turned-biergarten is an awesome outdoor hangout that juts into the Hudson, looking out onto the NYC skyline.
Earlier this spring, there were threats to shut it down, but it finally reopened while I was enjoying Cali. Thank God, cuz you can’t beat this view for a leisurely afternoon.
At night, we all had a big group dinner in Hoboken and headed to M1-5 Lounge in the city for a birthday party, which was a pretty fun bar with good music. I love busy Saturdays!
Sunday, Tom and I headed to Edgewater to practice our swings at the driving range. I nearly forgot what I learned at my golf lesson, but it came back to me eventually. But unfortunately, when we tried to hit up the stores afterwards, we learned the hard way that this area has Blue Laws so pretty much every store is closed. Ugh beware of Bergen County when you’re looking to do some Sunday spending!
But, we came back to have an impromptu BBQ at our place to try out our new grill and enjoy the perfect weather (which as we know, is temporary these days). With some homemade skippy (beer and lemonade), burgers, tomato salad, and these quinoa and spinach patties I decided to try out (even the boys said they were delicious), it was a perfect end to the weekend. Good food and friends … that’s all you need to kill that post-vacation hangover. Although the sunshine helps, too. 🙂
